South Downs Strings
love Weddings!
We really do! Weddings are our favourite events and we always feel honoured to be part of a couple's special day.
South Downs Strings love been involved in the planning excitement. We seek to create a personal play list that truly expresses the two of you and your celebrations.
With the aim of providing a personal service, we endeavour to only take on a limited number of weddings per year. This gives us the opportunity to get to know our couples and work out ways to provide a bespoke experience.
String Quartet, Trio or Duo?
The decision to have a string quartet, string trio or string duo depends on a few factors: venue, number of guests and budget.
The string quartet is the gold standard in terms of sound quality but a trio can work well when budget is a particular consideration. For smaller weddings a string duo can work extremely well. We will be happy to advise you after listening to your requirements and vision for your wedding day.
Your wedding ceremony
The wedding ceremony is the most important part of the your wedding day and we provide a thorough consultation with you beforehand to understand the atmosphere you want for your day.
You might like us to play as your guests arrive, it is a great way to set the scene for the wedding ceremony. 15 - 30 minutes is about the right length of time.
The wedding processional or aisle walk is THE moment and it is really key to select the right piece for your wedding procession. Whilst Pachelbel's Canon is a timeless classic (and for very good reason), there are no right or wrong selections here. You should choose a piece of music that you love and that reflects you. We can make recommendations if you need some help or we can arrange a special piece for you.
You might like us to play one or two pieces whilst you and your partner sign the register.
The recessional or exit music is a chance to get the party started as you take your first steps as newly weds! It's great to select a piece that reflects the two of you.
Your wedding reception
A champagne reception or cocktail hour often follows wedding ceremony. Many couples choose to have us play for their guests during this time whilst the couple might be busy having photos taken with various guests and family members.
We can also play during your wedding breakfast or even your first dance.
